What are Contest states (open, closed, judging, completed, recorded, reset)? And how do I use them?

WHAT ARE CONTEST STATES?

Contest states are the specialized (and unique) conditions of Contest Albums on SnapBraggin that allow the Host to start and stop Contests, record and make results official, to generate results, and to reset the Contests after the entries have been judged or rated.

The following are the possible Contest Album states, and their uses:

Closed, Open, Judging, Completed, Recorded, and Reset.

NOTE: Contest Album states are changed in the Contest Management List.

CLOSED:

Entries may not be submitted during state: Closed.

Entries may not be judged or rated during state: Closed.

During Closed state, Members may not add photos, modify or delete their photos.

The Host may use the Closed state to prepare a Contest prior to Opening for entries.

The Host may use the change from Open to Closed to end the Entry Period after entries have been submitted.

A Host (who is screening entries) may use the Closed state as a chance to Approve or Reject any PA (Pending Approval) or DQ-PA (Disqualfied-Pending Approval of a correction) entries before changing the Contest to the judging state.

OPEN:

Entries may be submitted during state: Open    (We call this time: the Entry Period.)

During Open state, Members (who have your permission) and the Host may submit their entries.

During Open state, Members may also modify or delete their photos.

During Open state, Members and the Host may rate the entries in Contests via the Gallery Home, but only if By Member Ratings is the judging method AND Allow Ratings while Open is Yes.

JUDGING:

The Host may use the change from Open to Judging to end the Entry Period and to start the Judging Period.

During Judging state, the Members may not add photos, modify or delete their photos

During Judging state, Single Judges may judge their assigned Contests via the For Judges menu  link, if By Single Judge is the judgement method.

During Judging state, Members and the Host may rate the entries in Contests via the Gallery Home, if By Member Ratings is the judgement method.

COMPLETED:

Completed means that judging or ratings have happened and have ended, but the results are not yet official (that is because Completed Contests can be re-judged.)

Single Judges will complete their assigned Contests via the For Judges menu link,

if By Single Judge is the judgement method.

The Host, however, must change Contests to Completed in the Contest Management List, if By Member Ratings is the judgement method.

When Contests are in the Completed state, the Contests may be re-judged.

Re-judging sets a Completed Contest back to the Judging state.

Re-judging can be accomplished by the assigned Single Judge or the Host via the For Judges menu link (by clicking on the Re-judge This Contest button in a Completed Contest.)

Or, the Host can use the Contest Management List to change Completed Contests from the Completed state back to the Judging state.

RECORDED:

Recorded means that judging or ratings have stopped and are finished, the results are official and have been saved, awards and points have been issued to the winners, and the Contest is final and cannot be re-judged.

During Recorded state, the Host may use the Contest Management List to generate written

reports of the results (for one or more Recorded Contests.)

WARNING:  To preserve and save results of judged Contests and awards and points, ALWAYS CHANGE CONTESTS TO RECORDED BEFORE RESETTING THEM!

RESET:

Reset is not officially a "state", but is used to change states.

You may use Reset to clear away current judging or ratings activities.

When Contests are Reset, they are transitioned to the Closed state.

WARNING:  To preserve and save results of judged Contests, and awards and points, ALWAYS CHANGE CONTESTS TO RECORDED BEFORE RESETTING THEM!
