III SUGGESTIONS FOR JUDGING – PORTRAIT First and foremost Portrait is a conformation event. The photo has been approved by the host to have the required details to compete.

For placement purposes judges should focus on the following:
1. The dog should meet the breed standard as closely as possible for a figurine.
2. If a breed standard other than the AKC is used, it must be listed in the description.
3. The setting and placement of elements complement the others (as in “completes the photo”).
4. Items in the photo are as close to scale as possible using model figurines and props.
5. If a description is given, it has all the required information and is short, clearly understood, and accurately describes the photo.
6 Composition is creative, gives the viewer a feeling of reality and every element is necessary and adds something interesting and positive to the theme. Quality can be defined as conformance to specifications, the degree to which a photo meets the specifications. The photo offers a satisfaction factor that fulfills all the expectations of the person viewing the photo. Realism is the quality of representing an event accurately.
7. Cropping does not impair the judges ability to evaluate the photo.
