How do I create and run a basic, 2-Level Tournament (with Standard and Champion Contest Albums)?

This answer is for use only by Gallery Hosts who are interested in holding Contests.

SnapBraggin offers three types of Contest Albums so that you can design 2-level, or 3-level tournaments:

  1. Standard Contest Albums are the lowest, entry level type contests.
  2. Champion Contest Albums are the next level up, for judging of the 1st place winners from selected Standard (feeder) Contests.
  3. Grand Champion Contest Albums are the highest level, for judging of the 1st place winners from selected Champion (feeder) Contests.

To create a basic, 2-level tournament you will need:

  • A SnapBraggin Gallery.
  • A sufficient number of Contest Albums of the two types (Standard and Champion) to create the tournament bracket.
  • A Gallery membership of enough Members (and yourself) so that the tournament will have a variety of entries.
  • Some Members (or yourself) who would like to judge the Contests (or the Contests can be rated.)

What are the requirements for a 2-Level Tournament?

  • ONE Champion Contest Album.
  • AT LEAST TWO Standard "feeder" Contest Albums (can be any number two or greater.)

What are Feeder Contests?

  • Feeder Contests are those Contests, selected by the Host, which will be judged or rated so that their 1st place winners will automatically "feed" into the higher-level Contest.
  • The 1st place winners of your Standard "feeder" Contests will automatically "feed" into the Champion Contest, in our example.

How the 2-level Tournament works:

  • After entries have been submitted into (uploaded into) the Standard Contest Albums, then all of the Standard Contests in your tournament will be judged or rated at the same time.
  • When all of the Standard contests have been Completed, the 1st place winners of the entries in the Standard Contests will automatically move up the bracket to be judged or rated in the Champion Contest.
  • Then the Champion Contest can be judged or rated to determine the final winners.
  • Your 2-level Tournament will culminate with the announcement of the ultimate winners of your tournament's Champion Contest.
  • (Of course you must Record the results of all of the Contests to make their results official, by changing all of the Contest Albums to the Recorded state in the Contest Management List.)

2-Level Tournament example:

  • ONE Champion Contest Album:
    1. CHAMPION BUTTERFLY PHOTO
  • THREE Standard Contest Albums (can be any number two or greater):
    1. ORANGE BUTTERFLY PHOTOS
    2. YELLOW BUTTERFLY PHOTOS
    3. BLUE BUTTERFLY PHOTOS

First, set up your 2-level Tournament bracket:

  1. Create your Standard Contest Albums (at least two.)
  2. Create your Champion Contest Album.
  3. While you are creating the Champion Contest Album, you will select which Standard Contest Albums will be the feeder contests for that Champion Contest. SnapBraggin will provided a list of already-established Standard Contests to choose from.

    In our example,

    • When you are creating the Champion Contest Album: CHAMPION BUTTERFLY PHOTO
    • you will select your three Standard “feeder” Contests:
      1. ORANGE BUTTERFLY PHOTOS
      2. YELLOW BUTTERFLY PHOTOS
      3. BLUE BUTTERFLY PHOTOS

NOTE: You can return to select or change the feeder contests at a later time, by accessing your Champion Contest Album's Manage This Album - Album Contest Settings page.
  4. Then assign the judgement method for every Contest in your tournament bracket.
    • Your Contests can be judged or rated. (Any combination of the two judgement methods is possible.)
    • You can use the Contest Management List to assign the judgement method for each Contest.

Then let the fun begin! Run your tournament!

  1. Open the Standard Contests for entries.
    • To open the Contests for entries, change all of the Standard Contest albums to the Open state in the Contest Management List.
  2. Judge or rate the Standard Contests
    • To start the judging period, change all of the Standard Contest albums to the Judging state in the Contest Management List.
  3. Alert everyone to start judging or rating.
    • If the judgement method is Single Judge, alert your assigned Single Judges that they may judge their Contests via the For Judges menu link.
    • Or, If the judgement method is By Member Ratings, alert your Members that it is time to Rate the entries in the Contest Albums on your Gallery's Home page.
  4. Complete the judging of the Standard Contests.
    • If your Contests are being judged, your assigned Single Judges will Complete the judging during the judging process.
    • If your Contests are being Rated, YOU will need to Complete the judging, which means that you must change the Contests to the Completed state in the Contest Management List.
  5. Then judge or rate the Champion Contest
    • When all of the Standard feeder Contests have been Completed, the Champion Contest will automatically change to the Judging state.
    • Alert your assigned Single Judge, or the Members that it is time to judge or rate the Champion Contest!
  6. Complete the judging of the Champion Contest.
    • If your Champion Contest is being judged, your assigned Single Judge will Complete the judging during the judging process.
    • If your Champion Contest is being Rated, YOU will need to Complete the judging, which means that you must change the Contest to the Completed state in the Contest Management List.
  7. Record the results of all of the Contests.
    • No matter which judgement method is being used, YOU must Record the Contests to make them official.
    • To make your 2-level Tournament's results official, to issue the awards and points to the winners, and to end the tournament, YOU will need to change all of the Contests to the Recorded state in the Contest Management List.
    • NOTE: You can change all of your tournament Contests to Recorded at once, IF YOU DO IT WHILE ALL OF THE CONTESTS ARE IN THE COMPLETED STATE. Or, if you are changing them individually, Standard Contests must be changed to Recorded before the Champion Contest can be changed to Recorded.
  8. Generate the written results of the tournament!
    • When your tournament is over, you might like to generate a written report of the results!
    • NOTE: The easiest way is to generate a combined report is WHILE ALL OF THE CONTESTS ARE IN THE RECORDED STATE.

To generate a combined report:

  1. Access your Gallery's Contest Management List.
  2. Verify that all of the Contests in your tournament are in the Recorded state.
  3. Select (place checkmarks next to) all of the contests in your tournament.
  4. Click on the Edit Selected button.
  5. Select Generate Report
