I am a Gallery Host. What is Qualified Contest Mode? How do I change and use the "Run in Qualified Contest Mode" option for a Contest?

This Album management option is only available for Standard Contest Albums.

(This option is not available for Champion or Grand Champion Contest Albums.)

WARNING:  This option can only be changed while a Standard Contest Album is either

Closed or Open state.

This option applies to either judgement method:  By Single Judge or By Member Ratings.

WHAT IS QUALIFIED CONTEST MODE?

In Qualified Contest Mode, only those entries that have become "qualified" (that have previously earned a required placement), will be judged or rated.

Usually Standard Contests are judged or rated in REGULAR CONTEST MODE.

In Regular (default) Contest Mode, all valid Entries in a Contest will be judged or rated.

However, if a Standard Contest is, instead, judged or rated in QUALIFIED CONTEST MODE, that puts an added level of restriction on which entries are valid (which entries will be judged or rated.)

WHAT ARE QUALIFIED ENTRIES?

Qualified Entries are entries (photos in a Contest) that have earned one of the Host-specified Placements.

Let's say that the Host wants entries that earn First Place, Second Place or Third Place to become "qualified."

That means that, over the various times that the Contest is judged or rated (and recorded) in Regular Contest Mode, those entries, that earn one of those placements, will acquire the right to be considered "qualified" entries.

Then, when the Contest is switched from Regular Contest Mode to Qualified Contest Mode, only those entries that have earned those placements, that are "qualified," will be judged or rated.

WHAT ARE NON-QUALIFIED ENTRIES?

Non-Qualified Entries are all of the entries (photos in the Contest) that did NOT earned any of the Host-specified Placements.

Non-qualified Entries are the opposite of Qualified Entries.

During Qualified Contest Mode, all entries that are Non-Qualified entries (all entries that did NOT earn a qualifying placement), will be temporarily hidden.

WHY USE QUALIFIED CONTEST MODE?

Qualified Contest Mode is useful for creating Tournaments.

You might hold a tournament by judging or rating a Standard Contest several times in Regular Contest Mode, then judging or rating it a final time in Qualified Contest Mode.   The tournament will culminate with the ultimate winners from among the "qualified" entries.

NOTE:  It is recommended that you run a Contest in Regular Contest Mode several times before switching to Qualified Contest Mode in order to allow a variety of entries the chance to earn the required placements.

It is also advised to allow the entries to stay in the Contest to be judged or rated multiple times.

The Album management options for Run in Qualified Contest Mode? are

YES or NO?

YES: Select YES to run the Standard Contest in Qualified Contest Mode.  Only Qualified Entries in the Contest Album will be judged or rated.   Non-Qualified Entries will be temporarily hidden.

NO: Select NO to run the Standard Contest in Regular Contest Mode.  All valid entries in the Contest Album will be judged or rated.    (NO is the default for Standard Contest Albums.)

New Standard Contest Album Setup:

During initial Setup of a new Standard Contest Album, STEP #4 allows you to indicate whether or not the Contest will be Run in Qualified Contest Mode.   ( However, it is highly recommend that you do not use Qualified Contest Mode until you have run the Contest several times in Regular Contest Mode.)

Established Standard Contest Album:

To change whether or not a Standard Contest will be Run in Qualified Contest Mode in an established Contest Album:

(To make this change, the Contest Album must be in either the Open or the Closed State):

1. When on the Album's Home page, select Manage This Album (via the Host Tools button or menu link)

2.  Click on the Album Contest Settings button

3.  Make your desired changes to the Run in Qualified Contest Mode option,

Select YES or NO?

4.  Then Click Save.

NOTE:  When your Standard Contest Album is in Qualified Contest Mode,

only "qualified" entries will be displayed in your Album.   Non-qualified entries will be temporarily hidden.  This will happen immediately and will remain in effect during all states (closed, open, judging, etc.)

NOTE:  To help keep track of which Contest Albums are in Qualified Contest Mode, visit your Contest Management List.

However, to change your Contest from Qualified to Regular Contest Mode, you must do so, individually, per Album in Album Management, as described above.
